Borussia Dortmund kicked off their Bundesliga season with a 2-0 victory over Hamburg, while top-flight debutants Elversberg recorded a memorable 3-2 win against Bayer Leverkusen.

Goals from Serhou Guirassy and new signing Giannis Konstantelias secured a 2-0 victory for Borussia Dortmund over Hamburg in their Bundesliga season-opener on Saturday, August 29, 2026. Guirassy provided a clinical finish inside the opening nine minutes, before Konstantelias doubled the lead with a shot that deflected off a defender into the net. Dortmund finished the match with 10 men after Samuele Inacio received a straight red card for a dangerous tackle just three minutes after coming off the bench.

Promoted side Elversberg, hailing from a town of just 13,000 people, made a dream debut in the Bundesliga by defeating Bayer Leverkusen 3-2. Elversberg built an early 2-0 lead through goals from Lukas Petkov and Cole Campbell, before David Mokwa added a third in the 46th minute. Bayer Leverkusen attempted a late comeback with Patrik Schick scoring 13 minutes from time and Christian Kofane netting in added time, but Elversberg held on for victory.

In other Bundesliga action, RB Leipzig shut out Borussia Moenchengladbach 3-0 with goals from Ridle Baku, Antonio Nusa, and Rocco Reitz, who scored against his former club. Mainz and Paderborn played to a goalless 0-0 draw.

Eintracht Frankfurt held a 3-1 lead in the 67th minute following a hat-trick from Younes Ebnoutalib, but Union Berlin fought back to claim a 3-3 draw thanks to a 92nd-minute equaliser from Tim Skarke. Meanwhile, Thijs Dallinga struck twice in the final 18 minutes to hand Cologne a 3-2 victory over Hoffenheim. On Friday, Bayern Munich opened their league campaign with a commanding 5-1 win over Stuttgart.
