The BCCI is expected to hold a selection meeting this week for the upcoming Afghanistan T20Is while awaiting fitness green lights for key players including Hardik Pandya.

As of September 1, 2026, the BCCI has not officially announced a date for declaring the Indian squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Afghanistan. With uncertainty surrounding chief selector Ajit Agarkar's tenure, the selection meeting is expected to take place this week, with selectors assessing several players currently undergoing rehabilitation.

India's squad selection carries added significance as the team aims to bounce back from recent T20I series defeats to Ireland and England. The delay in finalizing the roster stems from ongoing fitness assessments: Hardik Pandya reportedly picked up another niggle making him doubtful for the tour, while Washington Sundar and Nitish Kumar Reddy are also awaiting final clearance from the BCCI.

Shreyas Iyer, India's T20I skipper, is likely to lead the national side for the series. The final team is expected to be distributed between the contingent for the Asian Games and the squad for the ODI series against the West Indies, both of which follow the Afghanistan T20Is.

In contrast, Afghanistan has already finalized its 15-member squad under newly appointed full-time T20I captain Ibrahim Zadran. All three matches of the series are scheduled to take place at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on September 13, 15, and 17.
