Editorial and Advertising Policy
Last updated: 20 October 2026
PurePlay India exists to enable India’s sports ecosystem. Our journalism champions athletes who are often overlooked, especially from Manipur and Northeast India, tells their stories honestly and holds institutions accountable. This page sets out the standards we work to and how we keep commercial work separate from editorial decisions.
1. Our editorial standards
As a digital news publisher in India, we follow the Code of Ethics under the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021, including the Norms of Journalistic Conduct of the Press Council of India.
- Accuracy first. We check facts before publishing. News relies on official sources wherever possible: federations, leagues, the Sports Authority of India, the Indian Olympic Association, the Press Information Bureau and international bodies, together with our own reporting.
- Two desks, clearly labelled. News from official sources is published by the PurePlay India Sports Desk. Original reporting, features, analysis and opinion appear in the Editor’s Desk under the writer’s own name. Opinion is labelled as opinion.
- Fair to the people we cover. When we criticise a person or organisation, we base it on facts and give them a reasonable chance to respond where we can.
- Protecting young athletes. We take extra care with stories and images involving minors and work with their families, clubs or academies.
- Images and credit. We use photos we own or have permission to use, credit photographers and sources wherever possible, and show an initial instead of a photo until the rights are cleared.
- Use of AI tools. Some Sports Desk news summaries are prepared with the help of AI tools, working only from official sources. Our editorial team is responsible for everything we publish. Editor’s Desk features, investigations and opinion pieces are written by our journalists.
2. Corrections
If we get something wrong, we correct it promptly and say so. Significant corrections are noted at the end of the article with the date. To report an error, write to editor@pureplayindia.in with the article link and the correction.
3. Our partnerships and independence
Alongside our journalism, PurePlay India acts as consultant and media partner to clubs, academies and athletes, and works with businesses that support sport in Manipur. They are listed on our Network page. We are open about these relationships:
- When we report on a club, athlete or organisation we work with, we say so in the article.
- A partnership does not buy favourable coverage, and it does not protect a partner from fair criticism.
- Partners do not see or approve our editorial stories before publication.
4. How we make money
- Advertising, including display ads served by Google.
- Sponsorship of competition hubs, series, video and our newsletter.
- Affiliate links: commission from shops when readers buy through our links. See our Affiliate Disclosure.
- Consulting and media services for the sports ecosystem.
5. How we label commercial content
We follow the Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) guidelines so readers can always tell paid content from editorial content:
- Sponsored articles carry a “Sponsored” label at the top and name the sponsor.
- Competition hubs with a sponsor say “Presented by” and name them.
- Social media posts and videos that are paid for or feature gifted products carry a clear label (#ad, #sponsored, #collab or #partnership) at the start of the caption, not hidden among hashtags; videos also show it on screen.
- Affiliate content carries a notice near the top of the page.
6. What we will not promote
We do not accept advertising, sponsorship or affiliate deals for:
- real-money online gaming, betting, gambling or fantasy contests with cash stakes, which are banned under the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025;
- tobacco, alcohol (including surrogate advertising), or performance-enhancing or banned substances;
- products that make false or unproven health or performance claims;
- anything that conflicts with our duty to athletes and readers.
We may decline any partnership. Advertising and sponsorship enquiries: ads@pureplayindia.in or the form on our Network page.
7. Complaints and Grievance Officer
If you have a complaint about our content, including under the Code of Ethics, contact our Grievance Officer:
William Tekcham, Chief Editor and Grievance Officer, PurePlay India, Manipur, India. Email: editor@pureplayindia.in.
We acknowledge complaints within 24 hours and decide on them within 15 days.
