Australia has announced strong squads featuring international players for two four-day matches and three ODIs against India A in Puducherry.
Australia has named squad selections featuring multiple players with senior international experience for the upcoming Australia A tour of India in Puducherry later this month.
The tour consists of two four-day fixtures and three one-day matches, all to be held in Puducherry. The red-ball series kicks off with the first four-day game on September 22, followed by the second unofficial Test on September 29. The three unofficial ODIs will be played on October 6, 9, and 11.
Cricket Australia’s (CA) National Selection Panel emphasized that the tour serves as key preparation to expose players to subcontinental conditions ahead of the senior Australian team's five-Test tour of India early next year.
“We are excited by these squads and what they might achieve out of the series. Many of these players have played international cricket, whilst for others it’s a continuation of previous opportunities across Australia A and CAXI formats,” said CA chairman George Bailey.
Bailey noted that the tour is part of CA's continued investment in developing game styles in sub-continent conditions, adding that standout performers in the red-ball series will put forward a strong case for inclusion in next year's Test tour.
Players with Test and international experience across the squads include Peter Handscomb, Brendan Doggett, Sam Konstas, Nathan McSweeney, Jhye Richardson, and Todd Murphy. Others such as Mitch Owen, Jack Edwards, Tanveer Sangha, Liam Scott, Spencer Johnson, Ben Dwarshuis, Josh Philippe, Aaron Hardie, Nikhil Chaudhary, and Mahli Beardman have played in ODIs or T20 Internationals.
