Defending champions Alpine APL Pipers secured an 11-6 victory over Ganges Grandmasters on day two of the Tech Mahindra Global Chess League at Lalit Ashok, despite World No. 1 Magnus Carlsen being held to a draw by former World championship challenger Ian Nepomniachtchi.
The Pipers' win was propelled by Indian grandmasters K. Humpy and Vidit Gujrathi, who both earned full points playing with the black pieces against Stavroula Tsolakidou and Leinier Dominguez Perez, respectively.
In another fixture, Ganges Grandmasters bounced back to defeat home team Fyers American Gambits 9-7. Ian Nepomniachtchi scored a crucial win on time against World No. 4 and current World championship challenger Javokhir Sindarov.
Elsewhere in the day's action, PBG Alaskan Knights scored an 11-6 win over Cheq Mumba Masters. However, Cheq Mumba Masters recovered later in the day to edge out Triveni Continental Kings 10-9, handing the Kings their third consecutive defeat of the tournament.
