Alexander Isak scored twice early on to secure Liverpool's first Premier League win under new coach Andoni Iraola with a 2-0 victory at Ipswich Town.
Alexander Isak scored a quickfire double and new signing Bradley Barcola made his debut as Liverpool earned a 2-0 away victory against Ipswich Town, marking their first Premier League win under new coach Andoni Iraola.
Liverpool came into the match following back-to-back 2-2 draws against Newcastle and Nottingham Forest in Iraola's first games in charge. However, the visitors clicked immediately at Ipswich, with Isak scoring twice in the opening minutes off two assists from Cody Gakpo.
Isak opened the scoring in the sixth minute, taking a pass from Gakpo on the right side of the box and unleashing a powerful strike that hit Ipswich goalkeeper Kjell Scherpen before crossing the line. Just three minutes later, Gakpo bent a long forward pass behind the defense using the outside of his boot. Isak controlled it, switched feet, and fired home to double the lead.
Bradley Barcola came on in the 63rd minute to make his first appearance for Liverpool. The forward joined from Paris Saint-Germain on Monday, August 31, 2026, in a deal worth up to £123 million ($166 million).
Isak's two goals brought his tally to three in three rounds this season. The Sweden international's first season at Anfield was restricted by injuries, resulting in just four goals across 22 appearances. Iraola expressed confidence that a healthy Isak will deliver consistently.
"Yes, with Alex, if he is fit, if he is available, if he is in good shape, I think he will produce the numbers," Iraola said. "My demands with Alex will not be about the goals, probably will be about other things. I will demand other things so we can play well, because if we play well we are in good positions and the goals will come. He has to contribute towards the collective, and knowing when everyone helps, after the goals and assists will come."
The result leaves newly promoted Ipswich with one win and two losses in their return to the top flight.
