Erling Haaland became the top scorer in Manchester derby Premier League history as 10-man Manchester City secured a 1-0 win over rival Manchester United at Old Trafford. City played most of the match a man down after Phil Foden was sent off in the 23rd minute for kicking out at Bruno Fernandes. Haaland broke the deadlock in the 60th minute with his ninth derby goal, which was allowed after a VAR review overturned an initial offside decision.
United threatened on either side of halftime, with Marcus Rashford hitting the post from a long-range free kick and Kobbie Mainoo striking the woodwork with a low effort. The victory drew Manchester City level on points with defending champions Arsenal at the top of the Premier League standings.
In other English top-flight action, Coventry's nightmare start continued with a 5-0 home loss to Brighton. Frank Lampard's team remains rooted to the bottom of the table after four consecutive defeats without scoring a goal. Over in the Bundesliga, Harry Kane scored a 72nd-minute winner to earn Bayern Munich a 2-1 victory over promoted side Elversberg. Lennart Karl scored Bayern's opener before Maurice Krattenmacher equalized in the 61st minute. Kane's strike was his 99th Bundesliga goal in 97 appearances. Elsewhere, European champions Paris Saint-Germain headed to Brest seeking their first league win of the campaign.
