Sri Lanka's hopes of securing a women's cricket medal at the Asian Games have suffered a significant blow after batter Nilakshika Silva was ruled out of the competition due to a fractured finger, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) confirmed.
The middle-order batter was Sri Lanka's top scorer at the recent Women's Asia Cup, playing a key role in guiding the team to the final of the Twenty20 tournament, where they lost to India on Sunday.
SLC is already grappling with injury setbacks, as spinner-allrounder Dewmi Vihanga was also ruled out after sustaining a knee injury prior to the Asia Cup.
Sri Lanka enters the eight-team knockout tournament at the Aichi-Nagoya Games as one of the top seeds and is scheduled to begin its medal bid against Malaysia on Friday.
