After a scoreless first half, Jaidon Anthony broke the deadlock in the 61st minute by nodding in from close range after Jannik Schuster headed a corner back across the goal. The goal extended Chelsea’s streak without a Premier League clean sheet to 21 matches.
Igor Thiago doubled the lead in the 83rd minute, driving home a rebound after Emiliano Martínez saved an initial breakaway shot from Kevin Schade. Substitute Fabio Carvalho capped off the victory in added time by directing home a cross from Schade.
Austrian player Schuster reflected on Brentford's second-half performance after the match. 'I think when the second half began we played it more directly forward and we scored after that so I’m just happy,' he told Sky Sports.
The result marked Brentford’s first home victory over Chelsea since 1938, with manager Keith Edwards and his team celebrating the milestone on the pitch. The undefeated Bees moved up to third in the Premier League table ahead of the remaining weekend games, while Chelsea remain in seventh place.
Chelsea, who had scored 10 goals across their opening four games of the season, saw Pedro Neto's early curling shot saved by Caoimhin Kelleher, while Cole Palmer threatened twice.
