Video Assistant Referee Matt Donohue and Assistant VAR Blake Antrobus have been dropped from upcoming Premier League fixtures after wrongly allowing Erling Haaland's winner in Manchester City's 1-0 victory over Manchester United.
Video assistant referee (VAR) Matt Donohue and assistant VAR Blake Antrobus have not been assigned to officiate any of next weekend's Premier League fixtures following a decision during Manchester City's 1-0 victory over Manchester United.
The decision to stand down both officials was taken by chief refereeing officer Howard Webb alongside the management team. Neither official is expected to return to duty until at least after the upcoming international break.
Refereeing body Pro Ref acknowledged in a statement that VAR was wrong to allow Erling Haaland's decisive goal. Haaland's second-half strike was initially ruled out for offside before being awarded when a VAR review determined the Norwegian striker was onside.
However, the refereeing body later stated that the VAR failed to take into account the impact of teammate Enzo Fernandez, who attempted to play the ball from an offside position.
