Tripura collapse against Manipur U19 Women

Tripura were 50 for 3 after 10.3 overs, and the chase was still just about alive. It was not for long. The last seven wickets fell for 17 runs and the innings ended on 67 in 16.3 overs. Only Shayantika Namadas, with 26 off 31 balls, reached double figures among the batters, and seven of the 11 scored two or fewer. Extras, at 10, were the second-largest contribution.

Nonibala took 3 for 13 in four overs and Thokchom Puni Devi 2 for 9 in three, while Bijjiya Khundrakpam took one in 1.3 overs. Four Tripura batters were run out, and Ningthoujam was behind the stumps for three stumpings, two off Nonibala and one off Puni Devi, plus a run-out. Including the run-outs she was involved in four of the ten dismissals.

Next up: Nagaland

Manipur U19 Women play Nagaland, the other unbeaten side, in Match 8 on Monday 12 October at 8:30 am, at the same ground.

The Sports Desk view: a 74-run margin in T20 is rarely down to one department, and this one was not. A captain who top-scored and kept wicket, three bowlers who shared six wickets between them, and sharp fielding that produced four run-outs. It is the sort of result that rarely makes the national scoreboards, but for a Northeast side it is a marker. Nagaland on Monday, with both teams on four points, is the real test of whether Manipur can turn one big win into a table-topping run.
