Bengal leg-spinner Rohit Yadav has been slapped with a two-year ban by the BCCI for age misrepresentation, as the Cricket Association of Bengal cracks down on 62 players over document discrepancies.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has imposed a two-year ban on Bengal leg-spinner Rohit Yadav for allegedly misrepresenting his age. The penalty comes just weeks after the Uttar Pradesh-born cricketer was selected in India's Under-19 squad for upcoming home one-dayers and multi-day matches against Australia in Rajkot and Ahmedabad.
The age discrepancy came to light when Rohit's documents were scrutinized during India U-19's tour of Sri Lanka in July, where he picked up six wickets and helped win the final Test. Investigations revealed that Rohit possesses three birth certificates with different birth years—2007, 2009, and 2010—rendering him ineligible for age-group cricket.
Further discrepancies were discovered in his Aadhaar records. While his year of birth was recorded as 2007 when he registered with the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), his Aadhaar records showed 2006 in 2017 and 2020 updates before changing to 2009 in 2021. The CAB had previously excluded Rohit from its junior teams and reported the matter to the national governing body. "He has been banned for two years," a BCCI source confirmed, with the board barring him from domestic cricket and notifying all affiliated State associations.
Rohit's suspension is part of a wider crackdown by the CAB, which has declared 62 players ineligible for registration or transfer for any tournament during the 2026-27 and 2027-28 seasons following documentation and age-related reviews. The list, uploaded on the CAB website, also includes former 2022 Under-19 World Cup winner Ravi Kumar—who was flagged for a 45-month age discrepancy—and left-arm spin all-rounder Vishal Bhatti.
