The Cricket Association of Bengal highlighted its commitment to proper age verification after Bengal leg-spinner Rohit Yadav was banned for two years over document discrepancies.
The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) on Friday underlined its commitment towards strict age verification following the imposition of a two-year ban on Bengal leg-spinner Rohit Yadav due to an age discrepancy.
In an official statement, the CAB revealed that it "identified certain discrepancies/inconsistencies" in Rohit's submitted documents during a routine verification process, after which it promptly alerted the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
Following an examination of the matter, the BCCI removed the player from the India under-19 squad bound for the Australia series. After further verification of Rohit's age, the board subsequently replaced him with another player.
Reiterating its policy on age-group cricket, the CAB stated in its release: "The CAB remains committed to ensuring proper verification and adherence to prescribed regulations governing age group cricket."
