Gold medal at the 1958 Commonwealth Games (440 yards). Four Asian Games gold medals. Finished 4th in the 400m final at the 1960 Rome Olympics — missing the bronze medal by just 1/10th of a second. Padma Shri awardee. First Indian male athlete to reach an Olympic track final.
