NorthEast United FC v Mohun Bagan Super Giant recorded 17 million views on the English feed, the most of any match in the opening week, and also led viewership on the Hindi feed. The league described it as a sign of how much multilingual coverage matters in reaching India’s varied football audience.

On the pitch, NorthEast United won the game 1-0 in Guwahati, according to the ISL’s own match report. Substitute Jithin M.S. scored the winner in the second minute of stoppage time, from a rebound. It was NorthEast United’s first match of the season.

Subscribers, chat and the free-to-watch model

The league’s YouTube channel added 120,000 subscribers during the MG ISL opening week and now has 2.7 million. Fans sent 1.6 million chat messages and reactions during the five live streams.

Every MG ISL match is available live and free on YouTube, alongside television coverage on Sony Sports Network and live streaming on SonyLIV. The 2026-27 season began on 10 October and runs until 31 May 2027, with 13 clubs taking part.

By the numbers

Five matches. 65 million views. 52 million viewers reached.

The Sports Desk view: the headline numbers come from the league itself, and the release does not say how “reached” viewers or “engaged” views are counted, or how the English and Hindi feeds were combined. They are best read as the league’s own scorecard rather than an audited figure. Even so, it is notable that a Guwahati fixture topped the opening week, and that a Northeast club’s late winner was the match the audience watched most. The next test is whether the MG ISL opening week numbers hold once the novelty fades.
