Tamil Nadu sprinters dominated the opening day of the National Youth Athletics Championships, setting new record times in both the men's and women's 100m events.
Tamil Nadu sprinters made a dominant mark on the opening day of the National Youth Athletics Championships on Tuesday, sweeping the 100m gold medals in both the men's and women's categories.
In the men's 100m dash, Neil Samraj R of Tamil Nadu captured gold with a winning time of 10.46 seconds. His effort surpassed the previous youth national record of 10.63 seconds set by Anshu Rajak in Coimbatore in 2023. Mehebubul Ahamed of West Bengal took silver with a time of 10.74 seconds, while Delhi's Pushpendar Kumar claimed bronze in 10.81 seconds.
Tamil Nadu's T Mrithika won the women's 100m gold medal, clocking 11.78 seconds to better the previous meet record of 11.80 seconds set by Dutee Chand in Bengaluru in 2012. Mrithika was the sole sprinter in the final to dip under the 12-second mark. Suchithra S of Karnataka edged out Maharashtra's Saawari Kulkarni to capture silver in 12.03 seconds, leaving Kulkarni with bronze at 12.09 seconds.
In the women's discus throw event, Oshin of Haryana took gold with a mark of 45.98m. Uttar Pradesh's Dimpy Saini secured silver with 43.22m, while Haryana's Mansi Dangi finished third for bronze with a throw of 43.09m.
