Dowman opened the scoring in the seventh minute with fine footwork and added his second shortly after the break to put Arsenal 3-0 ahead. With the brace, Dowman became only the second 16-year-old to score two goals in a single game for a Premier League club, matching Wayne Rooney's feat for Everton against Wrexham in 2002. Noni Madueke doubled Arsenal's lead earlier in the match and Mikel Merino made it 4-0 before Anis Mehmeti and Chuba Akpom scored late goals for Ipswich.
