The Algerian Football Federation has parted ways with coach Vladimir Petkovic on mutual agreement, ending his tenure just weeks after the country reached the round of 32 at the 2026 World Cup.

Algeria have parted ways with national team head coach Vladimir Petkovic, the Algerian Football Federation announced on Monday, August 3, 2026, despite the Bosnian having signed a contract extension ahead of the World Cup.

The federation confirmed the split in an official statement: 'The Algerian Football Federation announce that their contractual relationship with the national team head coach, Mr. Vladimir Petkovic, and his coaching staff has officially come to an end today, on a mutual agreement between the two parties.'

Petkovic, 62, had taken charge of the side in February 2024 and had renewed his contract through to 2028 before the World Cup got underway in North America.

Algeria finished as one of the eight best third-placed teams in the expanded 48-team tournament, advancing to the round of 32 before falling 2-0 to Switzerland.

Algeria's attention now turns to qualification for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, with their campaign set to begin in September. They have been drawn in Group I alongside Zambia, Togo and Burundi.
