Argentina fought back from a goal down to draw 1-1 before defeating host Netherlands 3-1 in a penalty shootout at the Wagener Stadion.

Argentina dethroned host Netherlands in a dramatic penalty shootout following a 1-1 draw in the Women’s Hockey World Cup final at the Wagener Stadion. Goalkeeper Cristina Cosentino saved two Dutch penalties before Sofia Cairo converted to make it 3-1, sealing the victory and avenging Argentina's loss in the 2022 final.

Netherlands, which had lost only one game a year over the last 13 years while lifting three successive World Cups, took the lead in the 30th minute when tournament top-scorer Yibbi Jansen converted a penalty corner.

Argentina squandered four penalty corner opportunities in the third quarter, but continued to press through Cairo's runs into the circle. With seven minutes remaining, Argentina executed a penalty corner variation as Agustina Gorzelany dragpushed to a teammate, who deflected the ball to an unmarked Maria Granatto for the equaliser.

In the third-place play-off, co-host Belgium defeated Australia 1-0 courtesy of a goal from Charlotte Engelbert.
