Ahead of the ODI series opener in Thiruvananthapuram, West Indies skipper Shai Hope called on his side to embrace the challenge of playing India in their backyard and build long-term consistency.
Ahead of their ODI series opener against India on Sunday, September 26, 2026, at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram, West Indies captain Shai Hope voiced expectations for his team despite a difficult stretch for West Indies cricket.
Speaking at a press conference, Hope emphasized the importance of turning individual flashes of talent into sustained team performances. "We see great sparks in different series and from different people," Hope said. "It is about repeating that, trying to get those performances for a longer duration, rather than one or two games. We have to try to extend that for two, three, four series. Consistency is the biggest thing for us."
Hope also highlighted promising young talent within the squad, specifically pointing to spinner Vitel Lawes. "I expect him to grow as a left-arm spinner for us," the captain noted.
Looking ahead to the task at hand against the hosts, Hope acknowledged the difficulty of the tour while calling on his team to tackle it directly. "Playing India in their backyard, always a challenge, which we definitely need to grasp and embrace," he said.
