Uruguay head coach Diego Forlan has selected a 46-player provisional squad featuring Federico Valverde and Darwin Nunez for an October friendly against India at Salt Lake Stadium.

Uruguay head coach Diego Forlan has announced a 46-man provisional squad for the team's Asia tour in September-October, which features an international friendly against India at the Salt Lake Stadium on October 6.

The fixture will take place three days after India's clash against Brazil at the same venue on October 3. Announced by the Uruguayan Football Association, the squad retains 21 players from the 26-member roster selected for the recent World Cup.

Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde, Ronald Araujo, Rodrigo Bentancur, and Darwin Nunez feature among the marquee names. Former Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira and Nahitan Nandez have returned to the setup, while naturalised player Alexander Barboza has earned a call-up.

Inter Miami forward Luis Suarez was omitted from the initial provisional list, ending rumors of an international return for the veteran striker who has not featured for Uruguay since 2024. Forlan's leadership offers an additional attraction for domestic supporters, as the 2010 World Cup Golden Ball winner previously played for Mumbai City FC in the early years of the Indian Super League.

The complete provisional squad includes goalkeepers Santiago Mele, Cristopher Fiermarin, Ignacio de Arruabarrena, Sebastian Jaume, and Thiago Cardozo. The defense features Kevin Amaro, Jose Luis Rodriguez, Guillermo Varela, Nahitan Nandez, Santiago Mourino, Nicolas Marichal, Ronald Araujo, Alexander Barboza, Jose Maria Gimenez, Juan Rodriguez, Sebastian Boselli, Santiago Bueno, Sebastian Caceres, Mathias Olivera, Joaquin Piquerez, Lucas Olaza, Marcelo Saracchi, and Juan Manuel Sanabria.

The midfield selection comprises Emiliano Martinez, Lucas Torreira, Rodrigo Bentancur, Facundo Bernal, Santiago Homenchenko, Federico Valverde, Agustin Canobbio, Matias Abaldo, Facundo Pellistri, Luciano Rodriguez, Maximiliano Araujo, Lucas Villalba, Brian Rodriguez, Rodrigo Zalazar, Diego Rossi, and Giorgian de Arrascaeta. The forward line is made up of Martin Satriano, Agustin A. Martinez, Rodrigo Aguirre, Federico Vinas, Miguel Merentiel, Darwin Nunez, and Alvaro Rodriguez.
