Shillong Lajong FC stormed to the top of Group E with a 5-0 victory over Mumbay FC, while NorthEast United FC secured a 4-1 win over Karbi Anglong Morning Star FC in Group F of the Durand Cup.
Shillong Lajong FC delivered a dominant performance to defeat Mumbay FC 5-0 in a Durand Cup Group 'E' match at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Shillong on Saturday, maintaining their bid for a quarterfinal spot.
Lajong pressed continuously throughout the opening half before breaking through in additional time. Abhay Gurung capitalised on a rebound in the 45+1 minute to open the scoring, and Tremiki Lamurong doubled the lead just two minutes later at 45+3.
In the second half, Everbrightson Sana extended the lead by converting a pass from Lamurong in the 52nd minute before pouncing on another chance in the 64th minute to complete his brace. Figo Syndai rounded off the scoring with an 88th-minute strike, placing Lajong at the top of Group E with six points from two matches.
In Guwahati, host NorthEast United FC climbed to the top of Group 'F' with six points after a 4-1 victory against Karbi Anglong Morning Star FC. Alaaeddine Ajaraie scored early in both halves, converting a penalty in the 6th minute and striking again in the 48th minute, alongside goals from Macarton Nickson (83') and Ethyan Gonzalez (90+6'). Junior Onguene scored the single goal for Karbi Anglong Morning Star FC in the 27th minute.
