South United FC secured a 2-0 victory against CISF Protectors to lead Group-A in the 135th Durand Cup, while Imphal rivals TRAU FC and NEROCA FC played to a goalless draw.
Bengaluru-based South United FC climbed to the top of Group-A in the 135th Durand Cup following a 2-0 victory over CISF Protectors at the Kishore Bharati Stadium on Tuesday. The win places South United ahead of Mohun Bagan Super Giant on goal difference, with both clubs currently tied on three points.
After a barren first half, South United broke the deadlock in the 65th minute off a corner kick. Rowan James delivered a powerful header that struck the upright, allowing Rishik Shetty to tap home the rebound. The victory was sealed in the 84th minute when substitute Ashish Chetry guided B. Abhiram's measured cross into the net.
In the Group-D opener at the Khuman Lampak Stadium, Imphal rivals TRAU FC and NEROCA FC fought to a goalless draw. Both teams created multiple scoring chances in a tight match but failed to convert. TRAU FC played a portion of the match with 10 men after Ugandan midfielder Adriko Rogers was sent off for a second yellow card, but NEROCA FC was unable to capitalise on the numerical advantage.
