Bayern Munich forward Harry Kane has been voted Germany's player of the year 2026 following a 61-goal campaign, with manager Vincent Kompany picking up the coach's accolade.
Bayern Munich forward Harry Kane has been voted Germany's player of the year 2026, while Vincent Kompany secured the top coach award following an outstanding season for the Bavarian club.
Kane enjoyed an exceptional season, scoring 61 goals across all competitions for Bayern, including a hat-trick in the German Cup final as the team defended its Bundesliga title and won the German Cup. The England striker also helped Bayern lift the new season's German Supercup with a 2-1 victory over Borussia Dortmund on Saturday.
In the annual poll of 659 members of the Association of German Sports Journalists (VDS) organized by Kicker magazine, Kane led the voting with 272 votes, ahead of teammate Michael Olise who received 203 votes. Deniz Undav finished third with 61 votes, followed by Bayern's Joshua Kimmich with 21 votes and Hoffenheim goalkeeper Oliver Baumann with 14 votes. Three votes were deemed invalid.
Vincent Kompany captured nearly half of the total votes to claim the coach's award, succeeding Freiburg's Julian Schuster who won the title last year. Last year's player of the year award was won by Florian Wirtz.
The German player of the year honor has been awarded since 1960, while the coaching category was introduced in 2002. Legendary defender Franz Beckenbauer holds the record for the most player awards with four, while Jürgen Klopp and Felix Magath share the record for the coach's award with three wins each.
