India claimed the overall title at the Commonwealth Fencing Championship in Lagos, Nigeria, taking home 35 medals and lifting the prestigious Wilkinson Sword Trophy.

India has emerged as the overall champion at the Commonwealth Fencing Championship in Lagos, Nigeria, finishing the tournament with an impressive total of 35 medals.

The Indian squad captured 13 gold, eight silver, and 14 bronze medals across the U-23 and senior divisions. The senior fencers showcased outstanding dominance on the fourth day of competition, taking five gold medals out of six events. India secured top honours in men’s sabre, women’s sabre, men’s épée, women’s épée, and women’s foil, alongside a silver medal in men’s foil.

The historic campaign earned India the Wilkinson Sword Trophy, an award presented by the Commonwealth Fencing Federation to the country with the best overall performance at the event.

Reflecting on the milestone victory, Rajeev Mehta, secretary-general of the Fencing Association of India, stated: "Lifting the Commonwealth Overall Championship title for the first time is a testament to the talent, discipline, and hard work within Indian fencing."
