Manchester United manager Michael Carrick confirmed the club took a cautious approach after midfielder Mason Mount was forced off with a foot injury during a 1-1 pre-season draw against Paris St Germain.
Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has played down concerns regarding Mason Mount after the 27-year-old midfielder sustained a foot injury during Saturday's 1-1 pre-season draw against Paris St Germain in Gothenburg.
Mount, who has experienced limited game time due to multiple injuries since joining United from Chelsea in 2023, was forced off inside the opening 20 minutes following a challenge. Tyler Fletcher came on to replace the England international.
Addressing the setback, Carrick explained that Mount had taken a blow and that the substitution was purely precautionary. "He got kicked," Carrick told reporters. "We just wanted to be careful and look after him. We've been lucky with injuries so far, so we wanted to be careful."
On the pitch, PSG grabbed an early lead through Ibrahim Mbaye inside two minutes, but Bryan Mbeumo restored parity for Carrick's side before halftime to earn a 1-1 draw.
Reflecting on the display against the French champions, the 45-year-old manager told the club's television channel that he saw encouraging signs, noting that forcing players to problem-solve on the field helps prepare them for the season ahead.
Manchester United will conclude their pre-season preparations with friendly matches against Leeds United and AC Milan before kicking off their Premier League campaign against promoted Hull City on August 22.
