India bowling coach Morne Morkel has highlighted KL Rahul's experience as a vital asset for younger squad members ahead of the Galle Test against Sri Lanka.
India bowling coach Morne Morkel has backed wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul to play an important role in the upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka, highlighting his experience and ability to help younger squad members adapt to local conditions.
The two-match series begins with the first Test on August 15 at the Galle International Stadium. Notably, Rahul is the sole survivor from the batting group of India's 2017 touring squad.
Speaking at a pre-match press conference in Galle, Morkel praised Rahul's recent batting performances and noted that his guidance during net sessions will be crucial for the team's preparation.
"KL, the last couple of years, the way he’s been leading up front with the batting has been exceptional, and that’s a sort of communication that we expect him to speak to the guys here in the preparation at the nets and about what to expect," Morkel said.
To prepare for the conditions, the Indian team arrived in Sri Lanka 10 days ahead of the match. Morkel stated that the early arrival allowed players to work on individual game plans and figure out how to score on the Galle surface.
