Manchester United's Mason Mount was substituted early against PSG, but manager Michael Carrick confirmed he was taken off merely as a precaution following a kick.

Manchester United faced an early setback during their pre-season friendly against PSG, conceding an early goal and seeing midfielder Mason Mount forced off in the 19th minute. Mount was replaced by youngster Tyler Fletcher.

The England international initially jogged off the pitch with what appeared to be a foot injury before walking down the tunnel after a conversation with the medical staff. Mount has featured regularly in a deeper role during pre-season and was set to start in the Premier League 2026-27 opener against Hull City.

Following the match, Michael Carrick allayed fears of a long-term injury, confirming that Mount was taken off purely as a safety measure and looked OK leaving the stadium.

"Mason Moujt got kicked. We just wanted to be careful and look after him," Carrick told VG. "We’ve been lucky with injuries so far, so we wanted to be careful."
