Left-arm spinner Sachin Rathi picked up six wickets to put Tamil Nadu u-23 in control against Rest of India u-23 on the opening day at M.A. Chidambaram Stadium.
Left-arm spinner Sachin Rathi delivered a dominant spell, taking six wickets for 27 runs to help Tamil Nadu u-23 bundle out Rest of India u-23 for 179 on the first day at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium.
Rest of India u-23 struggled to make an impact outside of a 74-run third-wicket partnership between opening batter Angkrish Raghuvanshi and captain Priyanshu Moliya. Raghuvanshi, who scored 51, brought up his half-century with a boundary over deep midwicket in the 26th over before being caught short of his crease by Rathi as the ball turned away from the right-hander.
Moliya chipped in with 40 runs, while Varun Bhuie added 41, but Rathi kept a tight leash on the innings, cleaning up the middle order and tail as RoI u-23 were dismissed in 71.5 overs.
"I tried to bowl in the right channels. The pitch was good for batting, so I feel my first spell changed the complexion of the game," Rathi said after the day's play.
By stumps, Tamil Nadu u-23 had reached 45 without loss in 11 overs, with opener S.R. Athish capitalizing on scoring opportunities in the final hour of play.
