With only net run rate separating four teams tied on six points after 20 matches, the TNPL-10 tournament shifts to Chennai's M.A. Chidambaram Stadium for a tense league finale.
The TNPL-10 caravan moves to Chennai's M.A. Chidambaram Stadium for the final stage of the league phase after 20 matches, with the margin for error standing razor-thin. Just Net Run Rate (NRR) separates the second-placed and fifth-placed teams as all eight sides prepare for their last two league fixtures before the knockouts.
Action kicks off in Chennai on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m., featuring second-placed Chepauk Super Gillies against sixth-placed Vida Kovai Kings. Super Gillies currently lead the four teams tied on six points after dealing league leaders Madurai Panthers their sole defeat. Kovai Kings sit on four points but hold the tournament's best NRR (+1.247) following a massive 116-run win over Trichy Grand Cholas.
Acknowledging the pressure, Kovai Kings captain Shahrukh Khan emphasized that his team faces a must-win scenario. 'We’re not looking at other teams. We’re in a tough spot after the three losses. Our focus is to win two games and not look at the run rate. Our NRR is way better than anyone else. And anyway, we will be out of the tournament if we lose,' Shahrukh said.
Super Gillies skipper N. Jagadeesan dismissed concerns about being among the first teams to adapt to Chennai conditions. 'This [the schedule] is not in our control. It is always good to play the next match as soon as possible when you have momentum with you,' Jagadeesan stated.
Heading into the Chennai leg, Madurai Panthers top the table with eight points, while Idream Tiruppur Tamizhans, Nellai Royal Kings, and Trichy Grand Cholas sit tied on six points alongside Super Gillies. Dindigul Dragons are level on four points with Kovai Kings, while winless SKM Salem Spartans remain at the bottom after five games.
