Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya has announced a 10-member task force to evaluate India's motorsports ecosystem and explore hosting an F1 Grand Prix in 2028.
The Sports Ministry has taken a significant step toward developing motorsports and bringing Formula One back to India with the constitution of a 10-member task force.
Headed by NITI Aayog Programme Director Yugal Kishore Joshi, the task force includes Joint Secretary Kunal, joint secretaries from the commerce and tourism ministries, representatives from the Buddh and Madras International Circuits, state government representatives from Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra, an FMSCI representative, and a technical expert.
Speaking in New Delhi on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya outlined the group's primary objective and biggest hurdle. "While the main objective of the Task Force will be to make a comprehensive assessment of the existing motorsports ecosystem in the country, its main challenge would be to find ways to resolve the taxation-related issues that led to Formula One’s past departures from the country," Mandaviya said.
The panel's terms of reference include identifying policy interventions for sustainable growth, addressing infrastructure and operational requirements, evaluating economic, tourism, and investment benefits, and assessing the feasibility of hosting an F1 Grand Prix in 2028.
